NCAS - a national service bringing expertise to the resolution of concerns about professional practice

We help healthcare managers and practitioners to understand, manage and prevent performance concerns.

You can phone us about general governance questions or ask for help with managing a specific concern about  dentist, doctor or pharmacist performance.

Our services are under constant development to maintain their relevance to the National Health Service and professional regulation. We are currently working to support responsible officers as medical  revalidation approaches.

Use this website and our Handbook to find out about our services, about tools and resources to use yourself without contacting us, about our educational events and about our wide range of good practice and research publications.

NCAS works across the UK with advisers and caseworkers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland

Our advice line phone numbers are:

020 7972 2999 (England)

029 2044 7540 (Northern Ireland)

029 2044 7540 (Wales)

NICE to host NCAS

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is to be the new host of NCAS. This will be for an interim period from April 2012 to the end of March 2013, subject to due diligence checks.

We are about to appoint a communications manager and 10-12 lay assessors to represent the patient/public perspective during assessment of performance.  Closing date for applications is 17 February in both cases. See our current vacancies page for details.

Arm's Length Bodies review

A Department of Health review published in July 2010 means that NCAS functions continue into the future. Our work to resolve concerns about professional practice and develop new services is ongoing.
